We had the opportunity to check out three books from Scholastic's Summer Reading Challenge.
Bailey by Harry Bliss (ages 3-5), Scholastic Discover More: My Body (ages 5-7), and Geronimo Stilton: Singing Sensation (ages 5-7)
BB went straight for the Scholastic Discover More: My Body book. He loves learning about his body and anything related to science. After that he went to Geronimo Stilton: Singing Sensation and read a few pages before asking me for a bookmark so he could come back to it. I think it's a little more than he's ready for at this point, but I'm happy he gave it a shot. He breezed through Bailey and said it was one of his new favorite books. The story and illustration is amazing.
|His new obsession is baseball caps, wants to wear them all the time.|
Scholastic is currently in the midst of their Scholastic Summer Challenge, a program dedicated to keep kids reading and having fun over the summer. Kids can log their minutes, win virtual prizes, enter sweepstakes, and more. Last summer, kids read an impressive 64,213,141 minutes! Kids log their minutes with their schools, and the top 20 schools are included in Scholastic’s 2013 Book of World Records. They've already broken the world record for summer reading minutes, but they want to keep going and see how much they can beat it by.
There's also a great section for Parents. You can sign up to receive email alerts on your child’s reading achievements, access summer book lists compiled by Scholastic experts, and discover ways to use the Summer Challenge at home with the Family Participation Guide. You can go to Scholastic.com/summer to sign up and get more information
