Every year I challenge myself to do something bold and different. This is not to say that I've followed through with everything, but I figure this year I will put it out into the atmosphere.
1. How to swim.
Last year I enrolled my son in swimming lessons because I see it as a life saving necessity. In 2008, MSNBC reported that 60% of African American children do not know how to swim. I'm not surprised by this statistic given the lack of access in some communities, but I am determined to make sure that my family doesn't continue to have a fear of water.
2. How to code.
As an undergraduate I took a basic course on HTML and learned how to build a website. While I still remember a little, I would love to take my knowledge to the next level. Thanks to websites like Code Academy I can learn on my own and it's FREE.
3. How to shoot an arrow.
My Dad and eldest brother are avid bowmen and I think I'm secretly jealous. There's an archery shop near my home. It's on.
What are you looking forward to learning in the new year?

The last time I actually swam, I think it was at 4-H camp about 15 years ago. O.O So yea, I need to relearn how to swim.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to get better at coding.
And I'm also still in the process of writing my goals down and separating them into quarters. Seems less overwhelming that way.
Yes, I love the idea of spreading them into quarters. This helps you manage your time and focus!
ReplyDeleteYou have setup nice goals for 2013. I would like to add that you try your hands on Wordpress. I hope you do like and enjoy wordpress too.
DeleteI recently launched my blog: http://www.muslimweddingflight.com and hope you enjoy the poems.
Linking in from Blog Hop.
ReplyDeleteI do like your goals, swimming especially. I think everyone should learn to swim and it should be compulsory in schools as a course. May you enjoy this experience. I did a little html but it might help me if I knew a little more. And your archery sounds great.
Blessings,

I'd like to learn how to swim this year, too. I'm not sure what's holding me back, but seeing this post tonight is a great push to make it happen.
